Overview

The Buildings / Sites feature in INGENIOUS.BUILD allows you to manage and organize projects by physical locations—like buildings, campuses, or sites—within your workspace. This article explains who can see these buildings or subsites, how visibility is controlled, and how permissions work depending on your role and workspace settings.

Prerequisites

To manage access, you must first create a Building / Site. When this feature is enabled, all your existing Project Site Addresses will automatically become Buildings / Sites.

Note: Buildings / Sites is only available in Owner and Owner's Rep workspace types.

Process

Access to Buildings / Sites

Workspace Admins

  • Automatically have Edit rights to all Buildings and Sites in the workspace.

Non-Admins

  • Can only see Buildings for which they are explicitly added as a Viewer or Editor—similar to project access.

  • If you create a Building, you are the Editor by default.

You can manage access by:

  1. Navigating to the Buildings / Sites module from the left-hand menu.

  2. Opening the specific Building.

  3. Clicking Manage Access to add Viewers or Editors.

    Project-Linked Access

If you're part of a project team, and the project is associated with an existing Building:

    • You will be a Viewer of that Building unless it is marked as Confidential.

    • Confidential Buildings require an explicit access assignment (Viewer or Editor) to be visible.

    Project Visibility within a Building

Each Building has a Projects tab showing its associated projects.

    • Editors of the Building can see all associated projects, but can only open them if they’re also on the project team.

    • Viewers will only see associated projects for which they are on the project team.

    Subsites

    • Subsites inherit similar logic to Buildings.

    • A Subsite can have different permissions than the parent Building, allowing more granular control.

The Buildings / Sites feature delivers a secure, flexible way to manage location-based resources in your projects. By combining workspace-specific access rules, governance settings, and user role permissions, you can confidently control who sees what, ensuring privacy for sensitive information and visibility where collaboration is needed.
