Restricting Access to your Workspace MCP Server

Learn how to restrict access to specific users in your workspace for the MCP Server.

Written by Cara Alva

Overview

The MCP Server permission controls whether employees can connect AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Gemini, and other MCP-compatible assistants to your INGENIOUS workspace.

By default, all employees have MCP Server access enabled unless it is restricted through their assigned account type.

Prerequisites

To manage MCP Server access, you must have permission to:

  • Create and edit Account Types and Project Roles

These permissions are typically limited to workspace administrators or company administrators.

Managing MCP Server Access

By default, all employees can connect to the INGENIOUS MCP Server unless access is restricted through their account type permissions.

Restricting MCP Server Access

To disable MCP Server access for specific employees:

  1. Go to Employees Module → Account Types

  2. Edit an existing account type or create a new custom account type

  3. Uncheck the MCP Server permission

  4. Click Save

Any employees already assigned to that account type will immediately lose the ability to connect AI tools to the INGENIOUS MCP Server.

If you created a new custom account type, you’ll also need to assign it to employees by updating their account type in their employee company record.

What Access is Restricted?

When the MCP Server permission is disabled, employees will no longer be able to:

  • Connect AI tools to INGENIOUS using MCP

  • Authenticate or authorize MCP connections

  • Use AI tools to create or update records in INGENIOUS
